Run to Zero

My Activity Tracking

197
kms

My target 95 kms

I'm walking this 95 km this July for every person in Australia who dies from a heart attack, one every 95 minutes.

This July, I'm starting from a 95km goal and walking towards zero.

I need my fundraising tally to rise as I count down each kilometre, so I'm asking for your help. Please donate.

Every 95 minutes, someone loses their life to a heart attack in our country. That's why I'm choosing to support the Run to Zero campaign.

Give me motivation to reach my walking goals, while helping fund Heart Foundation's research and healthcare programs.

I acknowledge the support of many of you for one or more years for my efforts to support the Heart Foundation.

Last year my Heart Hero/ines - as I call my donors - so generously encouraged me in so many ways.

Our financial outcome was inspirational. I have attached our tallyboard - look what we did together!

Let's see what we can do this year. Even with the number of rainy and stormy days when I can't walk, I am confident I will reach 95kms!!

My Updates

Donor 5 Rebecca

Thursday 16th Jul
On the bitterly cold and wet mornings pre-dawn at Coogee, I am surrounded by dog walkers. This has been the best-dressed this year, one of two rescued greyhounds.

I think of you and Max in the mist and mud of beautiful Leara, with fondness and with gratitude.

I walk with all your reasons for supporting the Heart Foundation close to my heart.

Thank you for generously supporting me since the beginning. Thank you for your deep involvement and leadership with the Heart Foundation.

Dear Honey Snerbl,

Thank you for returning to support the Heart Foundation.

Given your career in elite sports and training, I felt you would appreciate my rest and recovery between 2 km (one return lap) of Bondi. The live site for the World Cup at Bondi has been well-timed for me to hang out with community, in a safe chilled space.

My dear Grandma GoGo,

I chose this image, as I know you would be happy with your growing brood here. And the joy of little people and creativity.

You have been a generous donor since the beginning. It means more than you know.

For you, I had to share a work by an Australian creative, given your own support for women artists. This was the image Nikki Poulos shared with me when I stopped to welcome her to the wall.

Thank you for your generosity, particularly when you are yourself raising funds for your inspirational City to Surf race. Your cat sitters did it for one year, and it was exhilarating.

Last weekend Bondi was PACKED with all the squads who realised just signing up for the City to Surf was not enough, and they needed to get some training in. I know this as they travel in packs and chat a lot. Three of them did the laps on the sand, bare-chested, with all the measurements on. I felt, looking at their pace, Heartbreak Hill might be a challenge. Let's see how they pace this weekend when I next head down.

Thank you for walking with me every year. It means a lot.

My dear Susan,

Like me, you have a life as a curious flâneur. Seeing moments others may not, as you also circle some of my worlds. Seemingly we have done so for years, facebook made it more obvious!

This fills my heart with joy, as does the laughter around it when I pass.

Thank you for supporting me every year and for sharing the reasons. I hold that in my heart, and it encouraged me to do more.

A little update to my lovely Heart Hero/ines

Thursday 18th Jun

💓 A little Run To Zero update. 💓

The official walking challenge doesn't begin until 1 July, but I've been busy getting some kilometres into my legs.

🚶 130km walked this week.

💗 $1,631 raised.

🏅 5th nationally.

📅 Before the campaign has even started.

That's a very good week's work.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far.

The past week has taken me to some wonderful places.

I watched a spectacular pink Bondi sunrise, with hints of the aurora lighting the dawn sky. I wandered through Centennial Park as the last autumn leaves fell.

I returned to Coogee this morning, where life is gradually settling back into its familiar rhythm after a difficult week for the local community. The photo is just a proof of life of me catching the reflection of the sunrise.

There has also been some World Cup football along the way. Watching Brazil at the Bondi live site after three weekend walks – and attending the film festival -  felt like a perfect reward.

And, thanks to the Pacer app, I've somehow managed to complete virtual walks through Greenland and a K-Pop adventure at the same time.

There is something wonderfully strange about walking through a Sydney winter morning while learning about places on the other side of the world.

One thing I have learned over seven years of fundraising is that every walk brings a story.

Thank you for walking alongside me as I begin another year supporting the Heart Foundation and its lifesaving research.

💗 Your heart knows the way. Walk in that direction.

Gosh you are so generous!

Friday 29th May
I have a spring in my step. My first four donations just arrived! My Heart Heroines who also love noticing the moments of beauty in everyday.

Things just got real, as is said.

Your reward is a glimpse of my morning walk.

💕

I've already started training! This is what misty pre-dawns look like!!

💓 Today  I’m launching my 7th year fundraising for the Heart Foundation. 💓

In July, I’ll be walking 95 kilometres as part of this year’s Run to Zero campaign.

I'm walking this 95 km this July for every person in Australia who dies from a heart attack, one every 95 minutes.

Each morning, before much of Sydney wakes, I’ll head out along the coast or in the parks in the predawn light — slowly, steadily, one step at a time.

Over the years, these walks have become far more than fundraising. They’ve become moments of reflection, gratitude, community and hope. Last year alone, 67 generous donors helped raise more than $6,000 for heart research.

Across seven years, this wonderful community of Heart Hero/ines has now contributed well over $22,000.

I’ve fallen in love with the slow magic of persistence — the predawn light, the empty paths, and the quiet joy of simply continuing.

Why the Heart Foundation? Because research saves lives. People close to you. People close to me. Perhaps even ourselves one day.

Although the walking begins in July, donations are now open for anyone wishing to support the campaign — and donations before 30 June are tax-deductible this financial year.

Thank you for walking beside me once again. 💗
